Why I Started IT Events Australia: Closing the Gap in Our Industry
David Vidos
If you’ve ever tried to keep track of the Australian IT industry’s event calendar, you’ll know it can feel like herding digital cats. As someone who’s spent years in the IT trenches—working with MSPs, vendors, industry groups, and passionate professionals—I saw first-hand how challenging it was to discover, track, and share all the great events happening across Australia.
The Problem: Scattered Events, Missed Opportunities
Before launching IT Events Australia, I was often searching through endless email invites, google searches, using AI, scrolling through LinkedIn, and jumping between association websites just to find out what was happening (and where!). Not only was this time-consuming, but it also meant I, and many in my network, missed out on important events—webinars, peer groups, summits, workshops, you name it.
And it wasn’t just about my own FOMO. I heard from MSP owners, IT managers, vendors, and industry newbies:
- “Where can I find events relevant to my city?”
- “I wish there was one place with everything—virtual and in-person.”
- “I want to plan ahead but can’t find a good calendar.”
Meanwhile, event organisers and sponsors were struggling to reach the right audience without spending a fortune on ads or fighting the noise on social media.
Why I Started IT Events Australia
I launched IT Events Australia as a free, central resource to bring everything together.
My goal was simple: make it easy for anyone in the Australian IT industry to find, share, and promote events, all in one place.
Here’s what I set out to do:
- Help busy IT pros and business owners stay informed without the hassle of digging through multiple sources.
- Support the whole ecosystem—from MSPs and vendors to industry associations, consultants, and students—by making sure no one misses out.
- Shine a light on local and niche events that often get buried under the big headline acts.
- Give event organisers and sponsors a better way to reach a highly-targeted audience who are actually looking for what they offer.
- Improve the ROI for event organisers by helping them avoid scheduling overlaps and ensuring their events get maximum attendance—making it easier to plan ahead and reach the right people at the right time.
What Makes IT Events Australia Different?
- Independent & Community-Focused: We’re not tied to any single vendor or association. The platform is here for everyone in the IT space.
- Comprehensive & Up-to-date: From national conferences to regional meetups, from in-person summits to online webinars, you’ll find it all.
- Easy to Navigate: No more clutter—just a clear, user-friendly calendar and event list.
- Free to Use: No paywalls. No hidden catches.
- A Platform for Growth: We’re open to collaboration, guest posts, sponsorships, and sharing success stories from across the industry.
The Future: More Features, More Value, More Community
This is just the beginning. Here’s what’s next for IT Events Australia:
- Smarter Search & Filtering: Making it even easier to find events by location, type, topic, and more.
